ABSTRACT
This study aimed to assess the research competencies of students in senior high school and higher education students, focusing on the relationship between various competencies. Utilizing a descriptive correlational design, the study gathered data through a two-month survey using Google Forms. Purposive sampling was used to select participants with relevant research experience or characteristics, enhancing data relevance. Key findings revealed students in higher education revolve around a solid grasp of the Basic Research Process, indicating a high proficiency level of understanding in the essential components of research and the ability to navigate fundamental aspects of research. Additionally, a notable variation in students’ self-assessments of their research skills, indicating disparities in confidence across different competencies. Students from the BED-SHS consistently rated their competencies higher compared to the college student groups. This study highlights the need for targeted educational interventions to address these competency gaps and ensure a more consistent level of research competency across different stages of the research process.
